April and May 2010, anti-government protesters encamped themselves around Bangkok’s downtown commercial district, shutting off the area to automobile traffic. Following a few weeks of tense stand-off, the military, who was responsible for empowering the government in a 2006 coup, began to forcibly remove protesters, causing city-wide riots. The following photographs, taken during the two days of martial law following the government crackdown, document the aftermath and cleanup effort from these events.
